Worrying comments?

I was reading some of my favourite blogs and just had a little look on mine as I noticed there was a comment made by a blogger who didn't speak English and when I translated it I began to feel a bit uneasy about our life and pictures being out there on the net for basically anyone to see. The comment wasn't really awful or anything but talked about children going missing and I wondered why someone thought this was a relevant thing to post on my blog!
Anyway, I'm going to have a little time to think about things and see how I feel. I love doing our blog and sharing our life with other like minded families but it has made me cautious.

Oh was it chinese or japanese type letters? I had one on my blog too and just deleted it.

I've noticed a few other people have had similar messages too. I think its a spam bot myself.

I have moved my blog to wordpress for security reasons & so far am delighted with it! For some its been a bit fiddly to get in but most from my old blogger blog are now in & its worth it I think. I had lots of issues last year about people I really no longer wished to associate with still reading my blog, then that started me thinking about the wisdom of having so much out there...Blogger will let you have I thnk 100?or is 50 I cant recall now readers if you go private, but I had more than that so I chose wordpress & paid a small amount to have an unlimited amount of viewers that I chose by inviting them.My new blog is no found by any googling now & I feel so much happier that I *know* whose reading. What was really nce is that most folks when they emailed me to say they wanted to move with me,told me a wee bit about themselves which was so wonderful & really strenghens the precious side of blogging becase there is one! Just we need to keep safe when we do it.
think I have waffled....lol!

Hi Joxy, yes I have had a couple of chinese type coments but I have also had a few people who follow my blog and to be honest don't seem to have 'similar interests' etc.
Hi GTM, I loved reading your blog and I am considering maybe moving over to wordpress. Lovely to hear from you :)

Hi,
That would leave you feeling very uneasy. You could make your blog for invited people only. Its a pain but it might give you a sense of security but without having to move over. Its probably a bot but there are also people out there who have too much time on their hands and like to upset people. Also, and I am not sure how you do it (not too technically minded here) you can make it so that all comments have to go to you to be approved before they get posted.

Oh it's horrible to see things like that. It is a method of spamming as Joxy mentions most of the time.

You could always change your comments settings so that you have to moderate them - that is they don't get published unless you want to.

Thanks for that post - it made me have a look at my blog and see how much info i give out about where we are and stuff like tht. I have tweaked it bit. I have had a couple of spam posts too and it is disturbing. I moderate comments for post older than 5 days, and restrict it to google account holders - it seems to not happen now. xx

yes, I have also had the chinese/japanese type.
I didn't translate it but a link took me to something quite unrelated and not at all threatening...
I also just deleted the comment.
